Graham Nash Mentor Quote
“The relationship with Atlantic Records was always a personal one. Our friend and mentor, Ahmet Ertegun, was our main contact at Atlantic and our relationship was based on mutual respect. He is a fine musician, singer and producer.” -Graham Nash
Who said it
Graham Nash is British singer and songwriter that has gained success through several bands. Nash first gained popularity with the band “The Hollies” in Britain, and with the bands Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in America. From his pop music beginnings in the UK, he transitioned to folk rock when he reached the US. Nash is known for many hit singles, and performed in Woodstock in 1969 with is band, CSNY. Aside from his musical accomplishments, Nash is also a published photographer. What it means
In this quote, Nash credits Ertegun as his mentor. Ertegun is one of the founders of Atlantic Records, and is a legend and a well-respected personality in the music recording industry. As a bit of trivia, it was Ertegun that convinced Nash into including Neil Young in the band that was Nash and the other members of what was now known as CSNY, was still forming back then. And so, Nash gives credit to Ertegun for the lessons that he learned and the guidance that he received on his way to building his musical career. For us, it’s good to know that even the greats that we admire also need someone to show them the ropes at one point in their lives.
