Oprah Winfrey is a well-known television and movie celebrity through her show, the “Oprah Winfrey Show” or, known simply as “Oprah”. Aside from her celebrity status, Oprah is also known as a supporter of women’s well-being and women’s rights, which explains the popularity of her show and her large influence among women. As her supporters already know, Oprah also went through a tough childhood, living in poverty, being sexually abused at age nine and giving birth to a son, who died at infancy, at age 14. So despite the success, accolades and wealth that Oprah has amassed over the years, Ms. Winfrey is no stranger to strife and hardship. This is probably the reason why she is loved by viewers all around; since she knows how difficult life is herself, she can easily empathize with her guests in a genuine way which then gives a human element to her show. As a person who has gone through many difficulties to reach her current success, Oprah knows that one can’t get through all those challenges without a little help and a lot of internal strength. Thus, a mentor is someone who can show that internal strength that each person presumably has. And though small as it may seem, a glimpse of the potential greatness that resides within each person is enough for anyone to believe in the future and continue to persevere.
